Jonathan Declared as Southern Top Choice for 2027
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has been tipped as the most formidable southern contender to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, made the declaration during a national television interview, describing Jonathan as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) “best bet” for the upcoming polls. Lamido urged the party to actively court the former president to return and vie for the presidency, pointing to his leadership track record, collaborative style, and political experience as unmatched assets.

“Jonathan remains unmatched in the PDP’s southern ranks. His governance record and ability to work with diverse political interests make him the strongest option. He is their best bet. Anyone the PDP puts forward, Nigerians will support,” Lamido said.
His remarks come amid growing speculation about Jonathan’s possible re-entry into the PDP race. While expressing enthusiasm about the idea, Lamido clarified that the party has not formally endorsed Jonathan nor initiated steps to secure his candidacy.
