Burkina Faso’s capital, Ouagadougou, was thrown into chaos late Wednesday night following heavy gunfire near the presidential palace, as President Ibrahim Traoré reportedly survived yet another assassination attempt.

Top security sources confirmed that the president narrowly escaped unhurt after unknown assailants launched a coordinated attack believed to be aimed at eliminating the 36-year-old leader. Eyewitnesses in the city said the sound of rapid gunfire and sporadic explosions echoed through parts of the capital, sparking fear and uncertainty among residents.

This marks the latest in a series of life-threatening attempts on Traoré’s life since he assumed power in a popular military-backed transition in 2022. Analysts believe the attack reflects the mounting resistance against Traoré’s bold political and economic reforms, which include severing ties with certain foreign military powers, nationalizing key resources, and supporting pan-African solidarity movements.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the assassination attempt, but security forces have reportedly made several arrests as investigations continue.
