Governor Fubara Free to Sack Commissioners Appointed by Sole Administrator — Lawyer
A Makurdi-based legal practitioner, Barrister Akondo Aki, has said that Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has the constitutional power to dismiss commissioners appointed by the outgoing Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd).
Speaking in an exclusive interview with THEWILL on Tuesday, Aki argued that since the Sole Administrator’s position was “a product of illegality,” all appointments made under his tenure were equally null and void.

“You don’t work with people you don’t trust. Fubara is at liberty to dissolve, nominate and send the list of commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly for screening and approval,” he stated.
The lawyer advised the outgoing Sole Administrator to dissolve the State Executive Council before handing over on September 18, 2025, stressing that the current commissioners emerged under what he described as an “emergency rule.”
He further urged Governor Fubara to resume office with courage, consult widely and take decisions that would restore peace and stability in Rivers State.

It will be recalled that Fubara was suspended from office on March 18, 2025, when President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state and appointed Vice Admiral Ibas as Sole Administrator for six months.
