Governor Ayade Declares curfew in Obubra over communal crisis

 

 

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has imposed a 6am-6pm curfew on both waring communities in Obubra Local Government Area of the state with immediate effect.

 

In a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to Governor Ayade, Christian Ita, said the state government has directed the state security agencies in the state to ensure the strict enforcement of the curfew.

 

 

News Week Nigeria had earlier reported that there was a communal clash between the Ovonum and Ofatura communities in Obubra.

 

The statement reads in parts:

 

“Following the ongoing communal clashes between Ovonum and Ofatura communities in Obubra Local Government Area, the state governor, His Excellency, Prof. Ben Ayade has imposed a 6am-6pm curfew on both communities with immediate effect.”

 

“His Excellency, the Governor hereby directs security agencies in the state to ensure the strict enforcement of the curfew.”

 

“The governor decries the destruction of lives and property in the renewed clashes, and vows that government will bring to book, all those behind the clashes.”
