BREAKING: Fubara Defects To NNPP
Ahead of the Rivers State Local Government Area Council Election In October, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Director General of the APC State Assembly Forum (ASAF), Ambassador Dagogo Fubara, has formally defected to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), where he will seek the platform to contest the chairmanship of his Bonny local government area.
His defection followed the decision of his former party, the APC, to boycott the election, which was being planned by the Governor Siminialayi Fubara administration of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Prominent Bonny APC stakeholders had earlier urged the Director General of ASAF to make himself available for the election in the interest of what they described as the desired development of the council.
“They said that the majority of the APC stakeholders in the area believed that they would not allow the blueprints of Ambassador Fubara Dagogo on the development of the council to die, adding that they are yet to see any other candidate who has presented a way forward program that would transform Bonny from what it is right now.
The stakeholders, who insisted that they would mobilize massive support for Ambassador Dagogo, therefore asked him to seek the mandate of any political party of his choice since the APC has backed out, adding that they would give him support irrespective of their political affiliation.
It was further gathered that no fewer than four political parties, including the Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Young Progressives Party (YPP), and Action People’s Party (APP), had wooed the former APC aspirants in the state, to contest the October polls on their platforms.
Confirming his defection to the NNPP in a statement on Tuesday, Fubara noted that the decision was taken after careful consideration and consultation with his local government area stakeholders. Fubara further noted that his decision was borne out of his burning desire to prove a point in the stalled development of the Bonny local government area.
He added that he has been a follower of the Kwankwasiyya movement that moved into the NNPP in 2022 and that he was immediately accepted into his former home by the party hierarchy in the local government area.
The ASAF DG was warmly received into the Bonny NNPP by its chairman, Hon. Kalada Igbo Allison, and his vice, Hon. Telema Kenneth, among other leaders of the party.
The NNPP chairman, who described Fubara’s entrance into the Bonny local government area chairmanship election as a relief for the council, assured that “the party will work together with his numerous supporters to comb all the crannies of the local government area to spread the good news” and ensure victory at the polls.
It would be recalled that Ambassador Fubara had earlier volunteered to purchase councillorship forms for all intending aspirants in the twelve wards of the Bonny Local Government Area, irrespective of their political affiliations.
