Former G-5 Governors Ikpeazu, Ugwuanyi, and Sarki, Make Tinubu’s Ambassadorial List
Former governors Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State have reportedly been shortlisted for ambassadorial appointments by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This was revealed by Jackson Ude, a US-based Nigerian investigative journalist, via a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.
BREAKING: Fani-Kayode, Reno Omokri, Shehu Sani make Tinubu’s Ambassadorial list
Ude’s post listed several names as potential ambassadorial appointees, including Ikpeazu and Ugwuanyi, alongside Fola Adeola, Bayero, Usman Sarki, and Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire.
He referred to the former governors as “Ambassador Okezie Ikpeazu” and “Ambassador Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi,” suggesting their inclusion on the list was confirmed.
Ikpeazu and Ugwuanyi were notable members of the G-5, a group of five governors within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who openly opposed their party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the 2023 general elections. Led by former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, the G-5 broke ranks with the PDP and worked in favor of Tinubu, the then-All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, contributing to his eventual victory.
The reported ambassadorial appointments appear to be part of a broader political reward system for individuals who played significant roles in Tinubu’s successful presidential campaign.
While the presidency has not yet officially confirmed the list, the speculation has sparked discussions about political loyalty and compensation in the current administration.
The reported inclusion of Ikpeazu and Ugwuanyi on Tinubu’s ambassadorial list has sparked discussions about the president’s rewarding of allies who supported his campaign, even from opposing parties.
