Born on June 12, 1936, Uwais had a distinguished legal career that spanned several decades. After his retirement from the Supreme Court, he continued to play a vital role in national development. Notably, he chaired the Electoral Reform Committee established by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua in 2007. The committee’s report, submitted in 2008, recommended sweeping changes to Nigeria’s electoral process, many of which continue to influence discussions on electoral reform today.
