Nasiru Abdullahi Mai Kano, a close ally of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has been appointed as the interim chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Mai Kano, who previously served as a lawmaker in the Kaduna State House of Assembly representing Unguwar Sanusi Constituency, was officially appointed to the position on Thursday, March 6.

His appointment comes as part of a broader reshuffle within the party.
In his new role, Mai Kano, alongside other appointed executives, will serve for an initial term of three months. According to sources within the SDP, their tenure will be subject to a review at the end of the three-month period.
An insider also revealed that the SDP expects more individuals associated with El-Rufai’s political circle to join the party in the near future.

“We are expecting more of our people to join the party soon,” the source stated.
Confirming the development, Muhammad Zaria, the Legal Adviser for the SDP Caretaker Committee, provided the full list of the new executive members.
“Yes, Nasiru Mai Kano is the interim chairman of Kaduna SDP. The Secretary-General is Iriniya Kantiyok, and the Vice Chairman is Honourable Mas’ud,” Zaria said.
