BREAKING: Damagum Accused of Betraying Wike As PDP Crisis Tears Party into Pieces

The ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) intensified on Wednesday as former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, has attack the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, accusing him of betraying a key agreement with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Speaking to journalists, Suswam expressed deep disappointment in Damagum’s leadership, claiming the embattled chairman has failed to unify the party at a time when internal cohesion is urgently needed.

“The acting chairman of the party has failed us, let’s call a spade a spade,” Suswam said pointedly, alleging that Damagum had not only mismanaged the party’s internal disputes but had also broken trust by reneging on an agreement with Wike.

The former senator criticized the lack of transparency in Damagum’s handling of party affairs and suggested that such actions have further eroded the trust of key stakeholders.

“I would have done far better because I wouldn’t engage in an agreement with the Minister of the FCT and renege on it. I will engage in agreement in consultation with stakeholders,” Suswam emphasized.

Drawing a grim analogy, Suswam likened the PDP to a patient in critical condition.

“The party is in intensive care unit, and people have survived from the ICU. I believe that if the right thing is done — which I doubt — there’s still a chance. But most people no longer have confidence in the leadership of the party,” he said.

Suswam’s comments come amid growing uncertainty about the PDP’s future, as internal divisions continue to widen ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His remarks add fuel to ongoing tensions surrounding the role of Wike — a controversial and influential figure within the party — and cast fresh doubts on Damagum’s ability to steer the PDP through its current storm.
