Court Nullifies Ekiti PDP Congress Ahead Governorship Election
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has suffered a major setback ahead of the 2026 governorship election as a State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti on Friday nullified the party’s Local Government Congress held in May 2025.
The court, presided over by Justice Bamidele Omotosho, however, upheld the earlier Ward Congress conducted on March 15, 2025, describing it as valid and in line with the party’s constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act.

In his judgment, Justice Omotosho ruled that the new list of delegates submitted by the PDP National Working Committee was illegal, having been prepared in contravention of the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act 2022.
He declared the list invalid and ordered it to be set aside, alongside all actions and decisions taken after the March 15 congress.
Quoting the Supreme Court, Justice Omotosho noted that “no suit based on a charlatan claim must be acted upon by the court” and stressed the importance of adhering strictly to legal and constitutional provisions in party congresses. He also issued a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants, their agents, and associates from recognising the nullified delegate list.

The judge further cautioned all parties against undermining the authority of the court, warning that any disobedience to its orders would amount to contempt.
Reacting to the ruling, PDP chieftain in Ekiti, Funsho Ayeni, welcomed the judgment, describing it as an opportunity for reconciliation within the party.
“This ruling paves the way for unity and gives all party members a chance to come together ahead of the 2026 governorship election,” Ayeni said.

The verdict is expected to trigger fresh political manoeuvres within the Ekiti PDP as stakeholders prepare for the battle to reclaim the governorship seat in 2026.
