Former Minister of Environment under President Muhammadu Buhari, Hon. Barrister Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi, has officially resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development comes as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abdullahi, a prominent figure in Nasarawa State politics and former Secretary to the State Government under Governor Tanko Al-Makura, submitted his resignation letter on Saturday, June 1, to the APC chairman of his Uke ward in Karu Local Government Area. Copies of the letter were also sent to other senior party officials.

In the letter, Abdullahi cited personal reasons for his departure, expressing gratitude to the APC for the support he received during his time in the party and in public service. He also extended his best wishes to the party in its future endeavors.
Although the former minister did not disclose his next political move, a close associate, Mr. Samuel Akala, revealed to journalists in Lafia that Abdullahi is likely to join another party soon and may contest the 2027 gubernatorial election in Nasarawa State.
“He is consulting widely, and there is a strong possibility he will declare for another party shortly,” Akala said. “He has the capacity and followership to mount a serious challenge.”

Abdullahi’s exit is the latest in a string of resignations and internal party friction that have emerged as political factions jostle for power ahead of the next electoral cycle. His departure is seen by analysts as a blow to the APC in Nasarawa, where he commands significant grassroots support.
The timing of Abdullahi’s resignation has added fuel to growing speculation about a broader political maneuvering aimed at unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. Although no direct link has been established, insiders suggest that Abdullahi’s move could be part of a larger realignment within the northern political bloc.
The APC has not yet issued an official response to Abdullahi’s resignation.
