Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, confirmed the casualties and said preliminary investigations suggest the explosion was caused by an improperly handled military ordnance.
“I received a call that something serious had happened. When I arrived, I found that it was a suspected explosion—possibly a military mortar bomb. Fifteen people were injured, and unfortunately, five died,” he stated.
According to the police chief, the victims were promptly evacuated from the scene, with the injured taken to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care. He noted that the full extent of the injuries varied, with several reported in critical condition.

Initial findings point to a trailer possibly transporting the explosive device from Yobe State. However, authorities have yet to determine whether the vehicle was operated by military personnel or private contractors.
“The situation is still under investigation,” Bakori said. “We understand the vehicle involved may have come from Yobe State. Preliminary findings suggest the explosive material was being transported by a trailer, but it remains unclear who exactly was responsible.”

The Commissioner urged residents to remain calm and avoid speculation as security agencies continue their investigation to establish the origin and cause of the explosion.
Authorities have cordoned off the area, and a bomb disposal unit has been deployed to ensure public safety and examine any remaining materials at the site.
