Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against any attempt to manipulate the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election, urging the electoral body to uphold transparency, credibility, and fairness throughout the process.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Atiku described the November 8 election as a “defining moment” for the people of Anambra, emphasizing that the outcome would determine the state’s political and economic direction for years to come.
He appealed to voters in the state to rally behind the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Nwosu Chima John, and his running mate, Nwobu Geoffrey Ndubisi, whom he described as the right leaders to steer Anambra towards “a new era of prosperity and stability.”

“The Anambra State governorship election next weekend is not just another poll; it is a chance to end the cycle of poor governance and to ensure that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) does not subvert the will of the people,” Atiku stated.
He urged the electoral umpire, under the leadership of Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, to demonstrate impartiality and independence in managing the election, saying the credibility of INEC was on the line.
“The election is an opportunity for the electoral body to prove to Nigerians and the international community that it has turned a new page and will no longer compromise the integrity of our democratic process to please the ruling party,” he said.

Atiku called on all registered voters in Anambra to come out en masse and vote, stressing that active participation was key to achieving credible outcomes.
“It is important that every registered voter in Anambra not only determines to vote but also mobilises support for the ADC candidate. The future of the state and, indeed, the nation depends on the collective will of the people,” he added.
The former vice president praised the political awareness and enterprise of the Anambra electorate, describing the state as a beacon of leadership and innovation in Nigeria.
