BREAKING: Atiku Kicks As EFCC Arrest Former House of Reps Member for Criticizing Tinubu

Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has strongly criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the arrest of former House of Representatives member, Hon. Muhammad Kazaure.

Kazaure, known for his vocal opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s administration, was reportedly arrested in Kano and taken to Abuja by operatives of the EFCC.

According to Atiku, the arrest is another example of the agency’s “lawlessness” and alleged use of state institutions to suppress dissent.

In a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Atiku accused the EFCC of detaining Kazaure without due process, legal representation, or formal charges.

“The EFCC has once again plunged headlong into its well-worn pattern of lawlessness,”

Atiku wrote. “Kazaure is presently being held incommunicado, with no formal charge or explanation offered to his family, legal team, or the Nigerian people.”

Drawing parallels to the earlier detention of social commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, Atiku alleged a growing pattern of intimidation and abuse of power by the Tinubu-led government.

He warned that such actions were eroding public trust in democratic institutions and undermining the Constitution.

“Even if there were legitimate grounds for arresting any citizen, such action must adhere strictly to the rule of law,” he said.

“The EFCC is duty-bound to publicly disclose the reasons for any arrest and must not detain individuals indefinitely under the guise of investigation.”

Atiku did not mince words in linking Kazaure’s arrest to his criticism of the administration, describing the move as “a direct consequence of his fearless and unrelenting criticism.”

He further accused the government of double standards, alleging that it protects allies tainted by corruption while targeting vocal opponents.

“The Nigerian people are watching. And history will not forget,” Atiku concluded.

As of the time of this report, the EFCC has not issued any official statement regarding Kazaure’s arrest.
