The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kano has suffered another high-profile defection as Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, who represented Kano South Senatorial District in the previous dispensation, officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
NEWS WEEK NIGERIA reports that Gaya submitted his resignation letter to the APC Ward Chairman of Gaya Local Government Area, dated April 5, 2026, with immediate effect.
In his letter, Gaya explained that his decision followed a “careful reflection and wide consultation,” emphasizing that leaving the APC aligns with both his personal convictions and the best interests of his constituents.

“I extend my sincere gratitude to the party for the platform it provided me and for the cooperation and camaraderie extended over the years,” he wrote.
The resignation was formally acknowledged by the Gaya Arewa Ward Chairman, Adam A. Adam.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday about his political future, Gaya confirmed his defection to the ADC, stating that he maintains a cordial relationship with prominent figures Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna. He added that the trio intends to work together to strengthen the ADC and ensure its success in Kano State.

Gaya’s defection follows the recent departure of APC’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, who left the party earlier last week, signaling a growing shift in Kano’s political landscape ahead of upcoming elections.
