Another Serving Edo Reps Member resigns from PDP
Marcus Onobun, the lawmaker representing Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, has resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)
Onobun, a former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, announced his resignation from the party on Friday, July 18, 2025.

He announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the Ward 6 chairman of the party in Esan West Local Government Area of the State.
He was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and later dumped the party to join PDP alongside the immediate past Governor Godwin Obaseki during the latter’s reelection in the 2020 gubernatorial election.
Onobun, an ally of the former Governor Obaseki, emerged as Speaker of the House following the impeachment of Frank Okiye as Speaker of the House of Assembly.

He also copied the Acting chairman of PDP in Esan West Local Government Area, the Edo State Acting chairman and the Acting National Chairman, Abuja, of his resignation letter.
He blamed the crisis rocking the party at all levels for his resignation.
According to him, the decision comes after extensive consultation with his political associates, leaders and constituents.

“It has become evident that the internal crises, leadership instability, and deep-seated divisions that continue to plague the party at all levels are no longer reconcilable.

“These unfortunate incidents have hindered the party’s ability to fulfil its founding fathers’ vision and effectively serve the Nigerian people.
“In the interest of my people and the mandate I hold, I have to take a principled stand that allows me to pursue a more effective pathway toward development, unity. and good governance”, said.
He noted that as a loyal party member, he has contributed his quota in service to the PDP over the years.
