Peace appears to have finally returned between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central) and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, as the Kogi lawmaker has extended a formal invitation to Akpabio and all senators to attend a series of project commissioning ceremonies in her constituency next week.

The reconciliation became public on Thursday during plenary when Akpabio read out Natasha’s letter inviting her colleagues to Ihima in Okene Local Government Area for the events marking her second anniversary in the Senate.

In a letter personally signed by her, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that the ceremonies would take place on Sunday, with the meeting point at her residence, located on Plot 101, Jimoh Akpoti Street, Ihima, Kogi State.

“In marking my second anniversary as a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I wish to invite my distinguished colleagues to join me for project commissioning in Kogi State,” the letter partly read.

She also informed senators that those travelling by air could land at the Obajana Airstrip before proceeding to Ihima by road.

After reading the letter, an evidently pleased Akpabio smiled and said, “Congratulations in advance,” prompting laughter and applause from senators across party lines.

The exchange publicly confirmed what insiders described as the final phase of months-long reconciliation efforts following the bitter dispute that once divided the two lawmakers.

Their disagreement, which began in February over a seat reallocation issue in the Senate chamber, escalated into a larger confrontation that led to Senator Natasha’s six-month suspension by the Senate on March 6.

She was, however, recalled on September 24 and has since resumed complete legislative duties. Her active engagement in plenary and committee activities in recent weeks, coupled with a more cordial tone in Senate proceedings, had already hinted at a reconciliation.

Just last week, she made an amendment proposal during the consideration of the Criminal Code Act (Amendment) Bill 2025, which drew commendation from her colleagues —a move that signalled a renewed sense of collaboration.

Thursday’s public acknowledgement by Akpabio, alongside Natasha’s open invitation, is now seen within the National Assembly as the clearest sign that the rift has been resolved.

Several senators privately described the reconciliation as a “welcome relief,” noting that it restores harmony and focus in the upper chamber.

The project commissioning ceremony in Kogi is expected to highlight multiple constituency projects executed by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan in her first two years in office, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, and empowerment initiatives across communities in Kogi Central.

Political observers believe the event will go beyond a mere constituency project unveiling, serving also as a symbolic gesture of renewed cooperation and inclusiveness in the 10th Senate.

As preparations intensify, expectations are high that the reconciliation between Natasha and Akpabio will not only strengthen legislative teamwork but also signal a fresh chapter of unity and purpose in the Red Chamber.
