ADC Considers Consensus Presidential Candidate Ahead of 2027

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has revealed that it may adopt a consensus arrangement in selecting its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The party, however, maintained that if consensus fails, it would proceed with a competitive primary election to ensure fairness and inclusiveness.

ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed this on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television.

He explained that the party would not be distracted by zoning debates or early declarations by aspirants but would instead focus on strengthening its structures across the country.

“Atiku says he will run, Obi says he will run, Amaechi says he will run, that does not stop anyone else. What we are committed to is a level playing ground. We will pursue consensus, and if that fails, we will hold competitive primaries,” Abdullahi said.

He stressed that the ADC’s immediate priority is building a “fighting structure” rather than engaging in premature zoning discussions. According to him, leadership is about understanding what needs to be done and when to do it.

The spokesman further clarified that the ADC is committed to creating a process that reflects internal democracy and unity, while giving every aspirant an equal chance to pursue their ambition under the party’s platform.

Meanwhile, both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have already zoned their presidential tickets to the southern region ahead of the 2027 elections.
