Bomb Blast Rocks Mogadishu Military Barracks in Abuja: Suspected Suicide Attack Reported

 

 

A powerful explosion struck the Mogadishu Barracks in Abuja earlier today, causing widespread panic and raising concerns over security in the nation’s capital.

 

Initial reports suggest the blast may have been the result of a suicide bombing.

Eyewitnesses near the scene described a loud, earth-shaking blast that occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. local time. Emergency services and security forces quickly cordoned off the area as first responders rushed to assess the damage and attend to casualties.

 

According to a security report, at about 261432A may 25, an explosion occurred at Mogadishu cantonment Bridge close to Roundabout checkpoint Abuja. The explosive blew the person in possession of the explosive while one person was seriously injured currently in Defence medical hospital Abuja.

The Nigerian military has yet to release an official statement confirming the number of casualties or the extent of the damage, but sources within the security services say several people may have been injured or killed in the explosion.

 

Located along the Abuja-Keffi expressway, the Mogadishu Barracks is one of the key military installations in the Federal Capital Territory. It has previously been the target of terror-related incidents, most notably during the height of insurgent activity in the early 2010s.
