Boko Haram terrorists have launched a fresh assault on a Nigerian Army base in Banki town, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, resulting in multiple casualties among troops and the loss of military equipment.

“The 152 TF Battalion close to Banki town under Bama LGA was dislodged by Boko Haram terrorists. They controlled the base for several hours, stealing military equipment and ammunition. Casualties are still being counted.”
Another source added that the base’s proximity to the Cameroon border made it easier for some surviving troops to escape.
Insurgency in the North East
Nigeria has been battling Boko Haram and its splinter groups for nearly two decades. Despite repeated assurances from military authorities that the insurgents have been “technically defeated,” fresh attacks continue to occur, especially in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States.

Soldiers’ Complaints
Nigerian troops have on several occasions expressed concerns about their operational conditions, particularly the quality and supply of weapons. Some soldiers have accused their superiors of leaving them vulnerable against heavily armed insurgents, a situation that has worsened morale in some units.
The Nigerian Army has not yet issued an official statement on the Banki attack as of the time of this report .
