- Billionaire John Overdeck and his wife, Laura Overdeck, are locked in a multibillion-dollar divorce battle, with Laura seeking about $6.2 billion from her husband’s stake in Two Sigma Investments.
- While Laura’s lawyers argue that the company’s growth during their marriage makes her entitled to a share, John’s legal team says he has offered a $723 million tax-free settlement.
Billionaire hedge fund manager John Overdeck is facing a major divorce battle after his wife, Laura Overdeck, demanded a $6.2 billion settlement as their divorce trial begins in a Newark courtroom.
Laura is seeking 35% of John’s stake in Two Sigma Investments, which her lawyer values at about $6.2 billion. She is also asking for hundreds of millions of dollars in bonds and equal control of the family foundation.
Her legal team claims John offered her about $633 million, describing it as an attempt to give her as little as possible. However, John’s lawyer disputed the figure, saying he offered a $723 million tax-free equitable settlement.

The main dispute in the case is whether John’s stake in Two Sigma should be considered a marital asset.
John’s lawyers argue that Two Sigma was founded two years before the couple married in 2002 and had already become an established business before their marriage.
Laura’s lawyers, however, contend that Two Sigma had little tangible value when the couple married and that its growth during their marriage makes her entitled to a share of the company.

The couple reportedly married without a prenuptial agreement, and their divorce proceedings began in 2022. The case has been described as the biggest contested divorce in New Jersey history.
John, whose Forbes-estimated fortune is about $8 billion, co-founded Two Sigma with David Siegel. The two reportedly own roughly half of the firm each and have been involved in a high-profile power struggle.
Laura also has experience in hedge funds and founded the Bedtime Math nonprofit in 2012. She is separately suing John’s former estate law firm, Seward & Kissel, accusing them of helping her husband shield assets.
