Betta Edu is being used as scapegoat, should be returned as Minister — PDP member reacts as presidency confirms Tinubu’s approval of N3bn
In the wake of the Presidency’s confirmation of a N3 billion approval for the social register, Sodiq Tade, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has criticized APC supporters for their stance on the suspension of Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
President Bola Tinubu suspended Edu amid allegations of N585 million fraud. However, a leaked memo signed by Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Tinubu, revealed that the funds were duly approved by the president.
Expressing his discontent, Tade argued that Edu’s suspension was unfair, emphasizing that she should be reinstated since she obtained presidential approval for the funds.
He accused APC supporters of initially dismissing the news as fake but pointed out that the presidency’s confirmation has changed their tune.
Sodiq Tade wrote: “I sincerely think Betta Edu should be returned as Minister. The suspension is pointless now that we know that she got approval from Gbajabiamila and, in extension, presidency. It will be unfair to her to take fall for something that the presidency is actively involved.”

He wrote: “When the news of Gbajabiamila approval came in yesterday, some APC boys disagreed and called it fake news. Some even questioned the signature. Today, the presidency has confirmed that the approval is genuine, and these same people are now looking away.”
He added: “Apparently, no one is interested in fighting corruption as far as their people are the beneficiaries. Betta Edu is being used as the scapegoat, and it is unfair. She should be returned as Minister because she got approval for the money in question. If we can’t treat everyone equally, then it is pointless fighting corruption or whatever the Tinubu administration pretends to be fighting.”
