In a move aimed at improving the welfare and motivation of civil servants in Benue State, Governor Hyacinth Alia has pledged to ensure that gratuity payments are expedited, with retirees receiving their due benefits just one week after leaving service.

 

This announcement was made by Governor Alia during a press conference held on Thursday in Makurdi.

His Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, issued a statement confirming the governor’s commitment to enhancing the financial security of state employees.

To further enhance the motivation and performance of civil servants in Benue State, Governor Alia has initiated various measures. Notably, he has connected the Government House in Makurdi and the Benue State Secretariat to a robust 330 KVA power supply source.

This provision ensures consistent electricity, with Government House now enjoying 18 hours of power daily, reducing the need for alternative power sources.

 

The Benue State Secretariat has also been equipped with this power supply, addressing a long-standing issue of power shortages.

 

Another key reform introduced by the governor is the automation of the state secretariat, which aims to tackle issues like absenteeism and enhance efficiency among civil servants.

In terms of professional development, Governor Alia has stipulated that civil servants in the state should undergo retraining at least once a year. Furthermore, promotions will be based on merit, rewarding those who have demonstrated competence and expertise by passing their exams.

Starting from May 29, 2023, any retiring civil servant in Benue State will have their gratuity paid in full, demonstrating the governor’s unwavering commitment to improving the lives and welfare of the state’s dedicated workforce.
