‘Avoid Making Unrealistic Promises, Focus on Reducing Cost of Living for Nigerians’ — David Mark Tells ADC Governorship Candidates as Campaign Begins

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has urged the party’s governorship candidates to avoid making unrealistic campaign promises as they begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Mark also warned the candidates against hate speech, ethnic and religious profiling, and any form of violence during their campaigns.

He spoke on Monday in Abuja at a consultation meeting with ADC governorship candidates from across the country.

The former Senate President urged the candidates to ensure that every promise made to voters was realistic, achievable and consistent with the party’s vision, warning that unfulfilled promises could damage the credibility of the ADC.

«“We are ADC. Our campaign must reflect the kind of country that we would like to build. Avoid hate speech, ethnic or religious profiling. We cannot be associated with violence in whatever form.»

«“Unlike the ruling party and the President, ADC does not believe that all is fair in politics,” Mark said.»

He further directed the governorship candidates to familiarise themselves with the party’s Governance and Ethical Principles contained in its Orange Book, as well as its manifesto.

According to him, doing so would ensure that the candidates conduct their campaigns in line with the values, principles and policy direction of the party.

The candidates, in their separate remarks, thanked the ADC leadership for providing them with a platform to contest the 2027 governorship elections.

They also expressed support for the decision by the party and its presidential candidate to make reducing the cost of living a major focus of the ADC’s campaign.

The candidates particularly highlighted the party’s position on fuel subsidy, saying the policy was designed to reduce the price of petrol and ease the economic pressure on Nigerians.

They pledged their loyalty to the ADC and expressed confidence that they would emerge victorious in their respective states during the 2027 governorship elections.
