In a significant political development in Edo State, the governorship candidate of the All Peoples Party (APP), Ambassador Osalumese Areloegbe, has formally collapsed his political structure in support of Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking at a press briefing at the APP secretariat in Benin City, Areloegbe explained that his decision to back Ighodalo was driven by the PDP candidate’s competence and vision for Edo State. According to him, Ighodalo has what it takes to govern the state and lead it to greater heights.

Areloegbe also dismissed rumors that he had aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo. He clarified that despite negotiations between his party and the APC, he had made it clear that his full support was with the PDP. He further noted that his followers across the state’s 18 local governments are united in backing Ighodalo and his running mate, Barr. Osarodion Ogie.
“The national leadership of my party might have taken a different tone, but I am in Edo, and I know who is best suited to govern our state,” Areloegbe stated. “We’ve had a series of discussions, and my supporters and I are 100% behind Asue Ighodalo.”
Areloegbe praised Ighodalo’s mental and physical capacity to pilot Edo State to greater heights, emphasizing that his endorsement was not just a political move, but one made in the best interest of Edo’s future.
