Public relations strategist Yusuf, in a statement on Thursday, warned of a formidable challenge awaiting Tinubu in the next general elections. “As much as Tinubu thinks he is crazy, the political gang-up coming for him in 2027 is a tough one,” he said, hinting at increasing alliances among opposition forces.
El-Rufai: “Illiterates in Leadership”
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has strongly criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party under Tinubu, accusing it of failing to uphold its founding principles.

Speaking at a national conference in Abuja focused on strengthening democracy, El-Rufai lamented the absence of internal democracy within the APC.
“I no longer recognize the APC. No party organ has met in two years—no caucus, no NEC, nothing. You don’t even know if it is a one-man show; it’s a zero-man show,” he declared.
He expressed concern over the lack of qualified leadership, blaming it on poor delegate selection. “You cannot afford to have illiterates, semi-illiterates, and cunning people as your leaders. This is why we end up with the poor leadership we have today,” he said.

El-Rufai further warned that the APC has deviated from its original mission to combat corruption and improve governance. “The problems that led to the creation of the APC remain unresolved, but I no longer believe the APC is interested in addressing them,” he added.
Amaechi: “We Paid Protesters Against Jonathan”
Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has raised concerns about the APC’s willingness to relinquish power in 2027.

Speaking at the same conference, Amaechi admitted that during the early days of the APC, the party paid people to protest against former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
“When APC was registered, I feared they might rig us out. So, we agreed to organize a demonstration at Eagle Square. We paid people to bring women and others. When I arrived early to assess the situation, I was shocked to see that the women we brought were wearing ‘Jonathan for President’ shirts,” he recalled.
He criticized Nigerian voters for being easily swayed by politicians’ rhetoric and financial inducements. “Somebody told me in Lagos, ‘Mr. Amaechi, these people that gathered here, we called them, gave them transport money, and they came. If tomorrow Tinubu does the same, they will also come,’” he said.

Amaechi also warned that Tinubu and other politicians are unlikely to give up power easily. “Nobody has power that will give it to you, not even me,” he said, emphasizing the need for Nigerians to take a more active role in defending democracy.
Opposition Unity: A National Emergency?
El-Rufai called on opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), to set aside their differences and form a united front against the APC.
“There seems to be a deliberate project to destroy opposition parties,” he alleged, citing internal divisions within the PDP and LP.
He also warned of voter apathy, citing a poll suggesting that 75% of registered voters might abstain from the 2027 elections. “This is dangerous. We don’t want military rule, but we also don’t want civilians behaving like the military in their babbar riga and suits,” he cautioned.
As political tensions rise and key figures distance themselves from the APC, the battle for 2027 is shaping up to be a high-stakes contest. Whether opposition forces can truly unite remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: President Tinubu is in for a fierce political showdown.
