APC Rep Member, Abubakar Shares ₦224m in Cash to Youth and Childhood Friends in Adamawa
A wave of public anger has trailed the decision of Jafar Abubakar, an All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker from Adamawa, to distribute a staggering ₦224 million in cash to youths and his childhood friends.
The representative of the Mubi North, Mubi South and Maiha Federal Constituency was reported to have handed out ₦124 million to “empower” youths and another ₦100 million to long-time friends he described as not well-to-do.
Eyewitnesses said the money was withdrawn in mint notes from a commercial bank and shared directly with selected beneficiaries.

Critics argue that the move exposes the excesses of Nigeria’s political class, where cash handouts are flaunted in a country gripped by hunger, inflation and mass unemployment.
“This is why Nigeria can never work,” wrote a Facebook user, Daniel Pablo, in reaction to the development.
Another commentator, King Mathew, said, “This is the time for EFCC to show workings, but no, they’re wait for Yahoo boys with laptops and iPhones. Nonsense.”
The revelation has fuelled debates over the culture of reckless spending by lawmakers at a time when millions of citizens struggle to afford food under Tinubu’s government.
Only in May, a federal lawmaker publicly admitted that billions of naira were being allocated to legislators under the guise of constituency projects since the removal of the fuel subsidy.

He disclosed that senators received not less than ₦2 billion each, while members of the House of Representatives got a minimum of ₦1 billion apiece.
The disclosure ignited outrage across the country as Nigerians condemned the opacity and impunity surrounding legislative spending.
Abubakar’s cash-sharing spree has now become another flashpoint of criticism against a ruling party accused of insensitivity to the economic hardship its citizens face daily.
