APC, PDP, Labour Party Endorse Coalition to Stop Tinubu’s Re-election

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has announced the formation of a broad-based coalition including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party (LP), aimed at stopping President Bola Tinubu from securing a second term in office.

Speaking during a meeting with stakeholders from Kogi East Senatorial Zone in Abuja, led by former Kogi State Deputy Governor Simon Achuba, Atiku condemned what he termed the “incompetent and inefficient” leadership of the Tinubu administration.

He expressed alarm over Nigeria’s deepening security crisis, accusing the federal government of lacking the political will to tackle the issue effectively.

“How can leaders remain indifferent while their citizens are being killed? Such apathy is the height of irresponsibility for any political leader,” Atiku said.

He cited his tenure as Vice President during the early 2000s, recalling how swift and decisive action had temporarily quelled the Boko Haram insurgency in its infancy.

According to him, President Tinubu’s failure to act decisively has worsened insecurity nationwide.

“We are under-policed. There are not enough police officers in this country, while many educated individuals remain unemployed. Why not recruit them into the police force?” he questioned.

Atiku revealed that ongoing discussions among top figures from Nigeria’s major political parties have led to a consensus on forming a coalition to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

“We are forming a coalition — all major political parties, including the APC, the PDP, and the Labour Party, are involved. This is the only way forward,” he declared.

Simon Achuba, head of the visiting delegation, echoed Atiku’s sentiments.

He decried the increasing violence, kidnappings, and destruction plaguing northern communities, calling it a direct failure of federal leadership.

“It is the government’s duty to ensure peace and order in our communities. Unfortunately, the government is doing little to alleviate this crisis,” Achuba said.

Achuba also called on northern leaders to unify and lead efforts to restore stability in the region. “In a situation where the government fails to take adequate action, northern leadership must step up,” he added.

The announcement of the coalition marks a rare show of cross-party unity and signals intensifying political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections. However, the inclusion of the APC — the party of the sitting president — in the coalition has raised questions and is likely to provoke significant debate within Nigeria’s political establishment.
