Alex Otti running Abia State on propaganda, borrowing without results, no project to show — Benjamin Kalu

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has accused Governor Alex Otti of administering Abia State through “propaganda rather than performance,” alleging that billions of naira in foreign loans have yielded no tangible results for the people.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu alleged that the state government has received substantial financial inflows, including a $263.8 million African Development Bank (AfDB) syndicated loan and an additional $125 million from the Islamic Development Bank, yet has failed to deliver tangible results.

“No landmark or iconic project has emerged despite these loans. If truly utilized, Abia would not still be grappling with bad roads and deteriorating infrastructure,” the statement read.

Kalu claimed that rather than focusing on development, the government has resorted to media showmanship, relying heavily on curated publicity stunts to create an illusion of progress.

“Abia’s reality contradicts the glossy propaganda being pushed online. Schools are in decay, hospitals lack basic amenities, and the economy is stagnant. The government prefers photo ops and documentaries celebrating imaginary progress,” he added.

The Deputy Speaker urged Governor Otti to shift attention from critics and focus instead on delivering measurable results for the people of Abia.

He stressed that his remarks were made in the interest of the state, not for political point-scoring, while signaling that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is preparing to challenge Otti’s leadership in the next election cycle.

“These concerns are patriotic, not political. With the resources available to Abia today, there is no justification for stagnation. The APC is ready to restore integrity and transparency in governance come 2027,” Kalu declared.
