The Honourable Commissioner for Lands and Town Planning in Akwa Ibom State, Captain Iniobong Ekong, is mourning the loss of his beloved mother, Deaconess Edoabasi Ekong, who passed away peacefully at the age of 85.

The announcement was made in a statement by her husband, Elder Edward Moses Ekong, detailing the family’s arrangements for the rites of passage. The ceremonies will commence with the Opening of Mourning House on Sunday, April 6, 2025, followed by a Service of Songs and Friends Night on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

The final farewell will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2025, with the burial ceremony at Ikot Akpafuk, Ndiya, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, officiated by the Lutheran Church of Nigeria.

Reflecting on the life and legacy of his mother, Captain Iniobong Ekong described her as a pillar of strength whose values shaped not only his journey but also the lives of all those who were privileged to know her.

Deaconess Edoabasi Ekong is survived by her husband, Elder Edward Moses Ekong, and five children: Obonganwan Ekaette Okon Ekong JP, Captain Iniobong Ekong, Anietie Ekong, Ime Francis Udo, and Nsikan Iniobong Akpan.

She also leaves behind 20 grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, two sons-in-law, and a wide circle of extended family and friends, all of whom continue to be inspired by her life’s contributions.

Known for her unwavering faith and altruistic spirit, Deaconess Ekong was a matriarch whose life embodied strength, dignity, and service. Her commitment to uplifting those around her remains a beacon of hope that transcends generations.
