Victoria Nwanyiocha Aguyi-Ironsi (21 November 1923 – 23 August 2021) was the second First Lady of Nigeria from 16 January 1966 to 29 July 1966.
She was the widow of General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi who was the first Nigerian military head of state who was killed in Ibadan, a countercoup led by Murtala Muhammed and led to the installtion of Yakubu Gowon.

The late Nigerian Head of State’s wife, Major General Johnson Thomas Aguiyi-Ironsi, died on Monday morning at the age of 97, according to reports.
She was born on November 21, 1923, and married the late Nigerian leader while still a student at Holy Rosary Convent School in Okigwe in 1953, when she was 16 years old.

Victoria Aguiyi Ironsi biography
As a 16-year-old student at Holy Rosary Convent School in Okigwe, she married Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi in 1953.

She moved Samuel Ademulegun’s children from Kaduna to Lagos and cared for them after he and his wife died.
During the Nigerian Civil War, she had eight children who were taken away and cared for by nuns in Ibadan under the direction of Adekunle Fajuyi.
She worked for the Local Government Services Commission in Umuahia as a commissioner.

Ironsi was the first woman to hold the position of First Lady of Nigeria. Aguiyi-Ironsi boosted the office’s prestige. Her style was described as “pretty and effortlessly regal” because she was frequently dressed in traditional attire.
After suffering a stroke, Aguiyi-Ironsi died on August 23, 2021 at Federal Medical Centre Umuahia. She was 97 years old at the time.
