After Intense Backlash From Nigerians, Tinubu Deletes False Tweet of Meeting Vatican Secretary of State Parolin
President Bola Tinubu has deleted an X post claiming he met with Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Secretary of State to the Vatican, on Saturday.
This came amid backlash from netizens and members of the public who suspected that the president had lied as the person with whom he was pictured was Cardinal Kevin Farrell.

Via his official X handle @officialABAT, Tinubu told his 2.7 million followers that Parolin “received and graciously hosted [me] to dinner”.

As of press time, the post had amassed over 855,000 views, 6,800 likes, 1,500 reposts and 1,600 comments.
FIJ fact-checked the president’s claim on Sunday and found conclusive evidence of the falsehood.

When FIJ checked the post on Monday, it was no longer up.

Tinubu met with Pope Leo XIV on Sunday morning and shared the post on his page.
It is not the first time the presidency has published misleading information via official communication channels.
