‘Adeboye who was very outspoken during Jonathan is now quiet under Tinubu, anybody who listens to this conman is a fool’ — Nigerians accuse Redeemed General Overseer of Hypocrisy
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has come under heavy criticism from Nigerians online over his perceived silence on Bola Tinubu’s administration and the worsening state of the country.
Several social media users accused the revered cleric of hypocrisy, recalling how outspoken he was during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure but has remained quiet despite rising poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship under Tinubu.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), @DrOaikhena lashed out, writing, “Anybody who still listens to this conman Pastor Adeboye is a fool and slave forever.” His statement came shortly after reports emerged that Adeboye planned to lead a national prayer for politicians and citizens amid Nigeria’s economic crisis.
Another user, @ChuksEricE, added, “Pastors like Adeboye and Oyedepo should be the top people calling out the bad government in Nigeria. Our politicians are the worst; they never think of how to move the country forward. Instead, Nigeria keeps moving backwards year after year.”
He praised pastors like Odumeje who continue to speak out against bad governance, noting that “one day, Nigerians will wake up.”

Their criticism adds to a growing wave of disapproval toward Adeboye, as other prominent voices have echoed similar sentiments.
In a viral video, activist and cleric General Asabuja accused Adeboye of double standards, recalling his vocal stance against Goodluck Jonathan while remaining silent under Tinubu. “We saw what Pastor Adeboye did during Jonathan’s administration. They did not let him rest. They fought Goodluck Jonathan. Church people, General Overseer. God will judge you people,” Asabuja said.
Similarly, social media commentator Shehu Gazali Sadiq accused Adeboye of hypocrisy and bias, alleging that while the cleric led protests during Jonathan’s presidency, he has now chosen silence under Tinubu.

Sadiq went further to call Adeboye a “tribal bigot,” claiming he is being used to pacify and “brainwash” young Nigerians from rising against the government.
The renewed backlash follows Adeboye’s recent call on Nigerian youths to focus less on blaming leadership and more on developing the skills needed to drive change — a message many citizens viewed as dismissive of the government’s responsibility
