The push for an Atiku Abubakar presidency in 2027 continues to gain traction, with the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Worldwide adding their voice to the growing chorus of support.

The former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in 2023 confirmed this development on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle.

In a post, Atiku revealed that the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Worldwide, led by its President, Ogbonnia Wenceslaus, paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Abuja. He described the visit as a demonstration of the group’s commitment to national unity and progress.

The statement has sparked reactions across political circles, as the race for the 2027 presidency begins to take shape. However, not everyone is optimistic about Atiku’s chances of clinching the PDP ticket, let alone the presidency.

During a live media parley in Abuja on Wednesday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), dismissed Atiku’s prospects.

Wike, who has been a vocal critic of the former Vice President, argued that Atiku’s repeated attempts to win the presidency have been met with rejection by Nigerians.

“Did he not present his blueprint to Nigerians in 2023?” Wike questioned. “Nigerians heard him loud and clear and said, ‘Thank you, but no.’ How many times will one person be given a chance? It simply won’t happen again.”

Wike likened Atiku’s situation to the political dynamics in the United States, referencing public attitudes toward former U.S. President Donald Trump. “In America, people make decisions based on what they believe is best for their country. Nigerians have made their decision before, and it’s clear they are not interested in what Atiku is offering.”

Atiku, on the other hand, has defended his vision for Nigeria, claiming that if he had been elected in 2023, the country would not be facing the current economic hardships under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

This renewed backing from the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Worldwide highlights the regional and ethnic balancing act in Nigeria’s politics, as various groups position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

With the PDP yet to determine its strategy, the debate over whether Atiku should be given another chance remains contentious.

As the political landscape evolves, Atiku’s ability to rally support from various regions, despite opposition from influential figures like Wike, will be critical in determining his political future.
