2027: I have no ambition, I just want to remove this evil I brought upon Nigerians – El-Rufai

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has declared he has no presidential ambitions for the 2027 election but is determined to see President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which he called an “evil” and a “tragedy,” voted out of power.

In an exclusive interview, the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory expressed regret for his role in Tinubu’s rise to the presidency, describing the current government as a failure with a staggering 91% disapproval rating nationwide, the worst in Nigeria’s history, according to his polls.

“Nigerians are tired of the ruling All Progressives Congress and are looking for a credible option,” El-Rufai stated.

He emphasized the need for unity, urging political heavyweights like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi to set aside personal ambitions and rally behind a collective effort to provide an alternative to the current administration.

“I have no ambition,” the 65-year-old politician insisted. “Having contributed to bringing about this tragedy to Nigeria, I should contribute in my last lap toward removing this evil that I believe will destroy Nigeria if left unchecked.”

El-Rufai vowed to support any party chosen through collective consensus as the vehicle to defeat Tinubu in 2027, signaling a potential coalition of opposition forces to challenge the APC’s grip on power.
